# Components:

→ Gingerbread Dough

01 - 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
02 - 1/2 cup brown sugar
03 - 7 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
04 - 3 1/2 tbsp molasses or dark honey
05 - 1 large egg
06 - 1 tsp ground ginger
07 - 1 tsp ground cinnamon
08 - 1/2 tsp ground cloves
09 - 1/2 tsp baking soda
10 - 1/4 tsp salt

→ Royal Icing

11 - 1 egg white
12 - 1 2/3 cups powdered sugar, sifted
13 - 1/2 tsp lemon juice

→ Decoration

14 - 1 3/4 oz white chocolate, melted
15 - Assorted white and brown candies (chocolate buttons, white sprinkles, mini marshmallows)
16 - Edible glitter or silver pearls (optional)

# Directions:

01 - In a large bowl, cream the butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Incorporate the egg and molasses, mixing thoroughly.
02 - In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, ground ginger, cinnamon, cloves, baking soda, and salt.
03 - Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring to create a smooth dough. Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
04 - Preheat oven to 350°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
05 - On a floured surface, roll dough to 1/5 inch thickness. Using templates, cut out house panels approximately 4 to 4 3/4 inches each.
06 - Arrange panels on the baking sheet and bake for 10 to 12 minutes until edges are just firm. Transfer to a wire rack and cool completely.
07 - Beat egg white until soft peaks form. Gradually add powdered sugar and lemon juice, beating until thick and glossy.
08 - Use royal icing as adhesive to attach panels, holding each piece until set. Allow the structure to dry completely, about 30 minutes.
09 - Drizzle melted white chocolate over the structure, applying candies and sprinkles with royal icing. Optionally, dust with edible glitter.
10 - Place the assembled house frame on a platter and arrange additional festive treats around it.

# Expert Advice:

01 -
  • It's the perfect showstopper that actually tastes as good as it looks, with that deep, warming spice flavor that makes you feel like you're standing in a cozy kitchen
  • You can make it ahead and assemble it whenever you have a moment, so there's no last-minute stress on a busy holiday
  • It becomes an instant conversation starter, and watching people's faces light up when they realize it's completely edible is pure joy
02 -
  • Your royal icing will only be as good as your sifted powdered sugar—if there are lumps, they will show up in your final icing, so don't skip this step no matter how tempting it is
  • Bake your panels until the edges are just barely firm, not fully set—this is the sweet spot where they'll be sturdy enough to assemble but still have that tender crumb that makes gingerbread special
03 -
  • Room temperature matters more than you think—both your butter and your egg should be at room temperature, or your dough won't incorporate properly and you'll end up with a greasy mess
  • The secret to structurally sound panels is letting them cool completely before assembly; this firmness is what allows your royal icing to set properly between pieces
