Nautical Knot Prosciutto Cheese (Print View)

Chewy braided snack combining prosciutto with string cheese, ideal for flatbread edges or solo bites.

# Components:

→ Dairy & Cured Meats

01 - 8 sticks string cheese (mozzarella or similar, part-skim preferred)
02 - 8 slices prosciutto, thinly sliced

# Directions:

01 - Lay a slice of prosciutto flat on a clean surface. Place one stick of string cheese at one end and roll tightly. Repeat for all cheese sticks.
02 - Take two prosciutto-wrapped cheese sticks and braid them gently from one end, twisting carefully to avoid tearing.
03 - For a thicker rope, braid three wrapped sticks together following the same technique.
04 - Arrange braided ropes around the border of a pizza or flatbread before baking, or serve as a standalone appetizer with dipping sauces.

# Expert Advice:

01 -
  • It takes just 15 minutes and requires no cooking skills, only your hands and a willingness to play with your food.
  • The contrast between crispy, salty prosciutto and the stretchy mozzarella rope is genuinely addictive.
  • It works as a pizza border, a flatbread topper, or a solo snack—one idea, infinite possibilities.
02 -
  • If your prosciutto tears while braiding, it's not a failure—just wrap it slightly tighter with another layer, and it becomes even more forgiving next time.
  • Cheese sticks straight from the fridge stay firmer and are much easier to braid without squishing or breaking apart.
03 -
  • Keep your string cheese and prosciutto cold—a room-temperature braid falls apart, but one from the fridge holds together like it was meant to.
  • If you're braiding ahead, wrap them loosely in plastic wrap and store in the fridge; they'll actually hold their shape better and taste just as good when you need them.
